MAXCANU

Maxcanu (pronounced ‘mash-can-oo) is a quaint colonial town located in the southwest of the Yucatan state, close to the border with Campeche. The town is mainly known for its agricultural activities and is surrounded by dilapidated haciendas and tiny villages. It serves as an excellent starting point to explore the area's caverns, archaeological sites, historical haciendas, and neighboring towns.

Getting to Maxcanu & Where to go After:

Maxcanu is located between the station stops of Calkini and Uman on the Yucatan I Route of the Tren Maya®, “Mayan Train”. If you’re traveling from the city of Campeche, you will arrive in Maxcanu in 1 hour and 25 minutes on the Tren Maya®, “Mayan Train”. From Maxcanu you can travel to Merida which is just over an hour on the Tren Maya®, “Mayan Train”. Onward travel from Maxcanu includes the state of Campeche and its port towns, and colonial cities, as well as the rest of the state of Yucatan, with its beautiful cities, history, culture, architecture, Mayan ruins, cenotes, and more.
